Thank you 2012!

 

I did a wedding gig yesterday and realised that it is the last wedding gig of the year for me! How time flies when you are having fun!

 

I don't know about you, but I think 2012 might be one of the best years of my life...... yet.

Here's why :

Firstly, I have been working almost 7 days every week for the last 12months. Not good for some, but since I am running my own studio, getting regular appointments is a good thing.

I have made many new friends along the way, many started out as clients and business associates. I am truly happy to be able to help people gain confidence with themselves or learn a new skill (to look good) during my personal makeup classes with them. The Thank-you notes and keeping in touch messages really do give me great job satisfaction. And this is also the push that gets me out of bed to work everyday. And so, I teach most of the weekdays now.

Waking up at ungodly hours , and I am talking about going to bed at 1am and waking at 3am, is definitely not fun. But just knowing that I am responsible in helping to create a very important and memorable part of someone's life keeps me going. Of course, I am talking about my brides.
Weddings are such happy affairs! This part of my job allows me to relive my own wedding (of 4 years) through helping my brides with their preparations.
Affirmations come from my brides recommending their friends and relatives to me. Happy to be booked for quite a couple of weddings in 2013 already!

Besides all that have been mentioned above, I still do many commercial, editorial & art collaborations. I love being busy with a good mix of work.

Here I leave you with the highlights of 2012. There are many others, but unfortunately I did not have the time to document them in pictures. Something which I will try to do more in 2013! Did I just make a resolution?

Little Man, Big Star

 

 

The superstar last week at the studio was this little man, Julien. How easy he makes posing for the camera which can put some adult models to shame.

 

Lucky for my hubby, YuJin, who was behind the lens and myself directing the shoot. Julien was able to take my directions easily and even came up with poses of his own with each click of the shutter.

Till today, when the parents of the bride put on the veil for the bride, it still gives me that warm fuzzy feeling. We are turning ONE!

How time flies! It is almost a year since Joiè The Makeup Bar has been set up. Though setting up shop and having the opening celebration seems like a vivid recent memory, it also feels like so much have been done in the last year. I hope you get what I mean. :)

In this last 11months, I have been working really hard with hardly any social life. Funny thing is I am actually happy how I spent the last 11 months. It is really different when you are doing what you love for work and you really do wake up happy everyday.

Here's what I have been doing.

I spend most of my weekdays conducting personal makeup classes to individual clients which I must say is one of the happiest part of my job. I not only get to help someone look good on a daily basis, looking good also helps with self confidence for some. Many of my clients have now become friends.

A couple of days every month, I still do magazine editorial shoots and fashion shoots. Still actively contributing to Prestige Magazine (the one magazine that I have the longest ongoing relationship with) and most recently Harper's Bazaar.
